       There are a quiet a lot of opportunities available in Biotechnology, the choice of appropriate course depending with ones interest is a crucial factor and a challenging thing. There are a lot of competitive examinations which are either exclusive for biotechnology or the conventional and general in nature. This section gives an insight into those avenues. 

1) Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination.

This is all India level Examination conducted by Jawarlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi for admission to 26 MSc courses and 2 M.Tech courses in Biotechnology. All the courses in this are sponsored by the DBT. This is an exclusive entrance examination for biotechnology which gives an exciting opportunity to study at the top BT schools in our nation. The test is open for all graduates in pure and applied sciences, Engineering, B.Pharm, MBBS, agricultural, veterinary, fisheries sciences etc.

2) Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineers (GATE).

 This is all India level examination test conducted jointly by the IITs and IISc for post graduate admission in engineering, pharma and other related disciplines. Other than the professional graduates the test is open for post graduates in pure or applied disciplines. The test provides opportunities for getting admission into M.Tech or MS by research courses in our nation. Other than the usual BT graduates, the test also gives opportunity for graduates in Pharma and Chemical Engineering disciplines to take a career in Biotechnology by taking entrance test in their own disciplines. The Biotech Engineering graduates and post graduates in scientific disciplines have to opt for the general paper, life sciences (XL).But choosing XL cannot directly give admission to PG as they have to qualify a written test and interview to test the suitability for the course. This is much needed in case of IITs.

3) Joint Admission Test (JAM).

This is yet another all India level examination test conducted jointly by the IITs for MSc admission in IITs. This is very novel opportunity as it gives and added exposure to technical or engineering aspects along with usual scientific knowledge in life sciences. It opens avenue to study at premier technical institutions of our nation.

3) IISC: Integrated PhD programme. 

Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India’s most reputed centre of research and a great temple of learning offers Integrated PhD course for graduates in life science and related disciplines. This minimizes the time needed to take PhD. The tests consist of a very challenging written test followed by interview.

4) TIFR: Integrated PhD programme.

 Tata Institute of fundamental research, conducts, Integrated PhD course for graduates in life science and related disciplines. The course is conducted at it Bangalore centre, National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS).

5) BARC: Integrated PhD programme. 

Babha Atomic Research Centre, BARC, Mumbai, under Department of Atomic Energy conducts, Integrated PhD programme.

 All India institute of Medical Sciences, India’s paramount institute for medical sciences and research conducts admission test for MSc programme in Medical Biotechnology.

7) PG Diploma in Bioinformatics Entrance. 

PG Diploma in Bioinformatics is conducted offered by four major Indian universities, Madurai Kamaraj University Madurai, JNU New Delhi, Pondichery University and Calcutta University. The peculiarity of this course is that this course is DBT sponsored; therefore it has higher placement opportunities. All India level entrance examination for admission to these courses is jointly conducted by these Universities.
